Addressing the need for youth-friendly spaces
Under United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) Sehatmand Khandan (SMK) Project, Aahung is preparing to set up three Youth Health Centers (YHC) in three districts of Sindh – Hala, Matiari, and Kamber Shahdadkot. To prepare the Health Care Providers (HCPs) who will be steering these Centers, Aahung conducted a three-day intensive training for doctors and staff nurses in these three districts, with the support of the Government of Sindh.
The training entailed orienting them on the conceptual layout of Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH) and implementing the YHC strategy by supporting and guiding HCPs in the overall functionality of YHCs in their respective district. The training focused on improving access, quality of care, prevention of health risks, empowerment of young people, and ultimately improving health outcomes. Adolescents and youth who lack access to SRH services are at a higher risk of unintended pregnancies, STIs, and other health risks. In contrast, adolescents and youth who seek SRH services have unique needs that require specialized care. Trained healthcare providers can help prevent health risks and improve health outcomes for young people by helping them make informed decisions about their health and future by providing age-appropriate information, counseling, and support.
